Mechelen & Leuven Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Carrefour de l'Europe Square. From this square in front of Brussels Central Railway Station, we'll walk to the bus. Ready to discover two of the most beautiful cities in Belgium?
After a 30-minute drive, we'll arrive at our first destination, where we'll enjoy a guided tour of Leuven. Once in this picturesque town, one of Belgium's leading university cities, we'll start our walk through the old town at the Grote Markt. In this square, we'll see the exterior of St. Peter's Church and the Town Hall, which stands out for its spectacular Brabantian Gothic style.
We'll continue our tour at Ladeuzeplein Square, where we'll see the bell tower of the Library of the University of Leuven, the symbol of the city! After learning about its history, we'll go to Oude Markt Square, popular among university students due to its large concentration of pubs, bars and restaurants.
From this lively area, we'll continue past the churches of St. Michael and St. Anthony. To conclude our tour of Leuven, we'll walk through the Grand Beguinage. This beautiful neighbourhood with quaint narrow streets has been declared a World Heritage Site—you'll love it!
Then, you'll have 1 hour of free time to grab some lunch in the centre of Leuven. After lunch, we'll move on to the second stop of the day, Mechelen. Here, we'll take a guided tour through this city of canals starting with Grote Markt. In this square, we'll see the Town Hall, on the façade of which we'll see the sculpture of Emperor Charles V. Did you know that he spent part of his childhood in Mechelen?
We'll continue our walk past other emblematic points of the city, such as the Palace of Margaret of Austria, St. John's Church and the Palace of Margaret of York. Finally, we'll stop in front of St. Rumbold's Cathedral to admire its imposing 97-metre-high (318 ft) bell tower.
From Mechelen, we'll return to the meeting point in Brussels, where we'll conclude this 10-hour tour.
